Somik Lall

Mr. Lall is a Senior Economist with the Finance, Economics and Urban Development Department of the World Bank and core team member of the World Development Report 2009: ‘Reshaping Economic Geography’. His policy advisory and analytic work has spanned a range of countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, focusing on identifying priorities for public investment across places and sectors. His research has been published in leading academic and policy journals, which include empirical analysis of agglomeration economies and transport infrastructure on location decisions and productivity of businesses and identifying mechanisms for providing and financing local public goods in fiscally stressed urban areas. He holds a B.S. in Engineering, Masters in City and Regional Planning, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy.
